Windhaven

I’m a fan of the Song of Ice and Fire Series series by George R. R. Martin and if you are too, you know it can be a while between books.  I watch the HBO series to help pass the time, but it just hasn’t been working.  Knowing GRRM is a rather prolific writer, I decided to try one of his other novels.

I picked up Windhavenby GRRM and Lisa Tuttle.

Overall, it was a pretty good read.  The cast of characters is easy enough to keep track of and the family lines are clean.  The story is about a girl who dares to climb her way to a higher station in life than the one she was born into.  Her motivation wasn’t entirely selfish, but she failed to see how the changes she pushed for ultimately rippled out and caused problems years after she “changed the world.”  As with all good hero stories, she gets a chance to redeem herself.  I did find the plot a little predictable at times and a little contrived in a couple spots.  Still, it was worth the read and I’ll be checking out some more of Lisa Tuttle’s work as well.
